The Quilt

In preparation for the new baby, I've started sewing my huge knitted blanket again.  For those of you who have known me over 5 years, then you'll remember it was then that I began a beautiful knitted quilt made of baby alpaca yarn.  Made up of 80 mitred squares, this quilt was adapted from a pattern I found in my Mason-Dixon Knitting Book.  My husband was with me when I bought some of the yarn -- the first time he saw me spend $100 on anything willingly (yes, I said some).  It's a project that was gonna be finished by my wedding, gonna be finished by my first due date.  Now its gonna  be finished by my second due date.  Promise!!  All the squares are knitted; the hard part (for me) is sewing the squares together.  Just yesterday I got all my squares out of the box I had them stored in for the first time in over a year.  During my daughter's 2 hour afternoon nap, I had sewn a few more together, totalling 24 sewn together so far -- that's over a quarter of the way through!

So the above picture is where I am today -- much farther along, but still a long way to go!  There are a number of squares that still need to be "blocked" (ironed out to the correct dimensions), then they need to be sewn together, then there is a knitted border that goes around the perimeter.  But, thank goodness I've got until November!!
